Ramon Theatre
The Ramon Theater, a vaudeville-era gem in downtown Frostproof, keeps the old stage alive with everything from Beatles and Elvis tribute acts to raucous Las Vegas comedians. Four times a year it turns into a crime scene for its interactive murder mystery nights, where guests grill suspects and crack the case themselves, while its January-to-April music series keeps the marquee lit with a genre-hopping lineup for every taste.
In 1880, James Shelfer planted the first orange tree on his family's new Florida homestead near Arcadia — and over 130 years later, that same land is still growing some of the best citrus in the world. The Frostproof Historical Museum, housed in the town's original 1922 public library has tripled in size since becoming a museum in 1978 and now packs thousands of artifacts, photos, and documents into its small space — from a vintage theater projector to citrus memorabilia and a veterans' tribute. Admission is free (donations welcome), and with curator Bea on hand to share local stories, it's worth setting aside a good hour to take it all in.
Tucked across four unique tracts, Lake Wales Ridge State Forest protects some of Florida's rarest and most naturally functioning ecosystems, home to countless endangered and threatened plants and animals found nowhere else. Explore this beautiful, ecologically rich landscape where conservation and outdoor recreation come together on land preserved since 1984 through Florida's CARL program.
Highlands Hammock State Park
Home to more rare and endemic species than any other Florida State Park, Highlands Hammock invites you to walk beneath ancient oaks where panthers, black bears, deer, and alligators still roam free. Explore nine trails, bike a 3-mile loop, or hop the tram to experience the Real Florida — then step back in time at the historic CCC Museum.
